![]() ![]() He plays along pretending to be defeated as the unsub is unknowingly admitting to all of his crimes on tape. What I love about this episode is that we get the shining intelligence of Spencer using the Fibonacci code to solve the puzzle, but it is Rossi that saves the day. ‘Masterpiece’ is so cleverly created that these time pressures are tied into the interrogation of the Professor and Rossi by flashing in black and white to the victims that are being held in the unknown location. Any episode with time pressures always adds the sense of urgency and tension for the audience to become wrapped up into. He is the one who declares he has killed seven women with no trace at all, then he adds the time pressure of ten hours to save the final five victims. We have met our fair share of self-righteous unsubs, but this one definitely deserves to be included in this list. But this episode is a nice change to put Rossi in the driver’s seat instead. It does make me giggle when Spencer declares, “I never have any normal fans”. Initially, it seems that this Professor wants to target the intellectual capacity of Spencer Reid. This episode showcases the arrogant, narcissistic Professor who decides to take on Agent David Rossi big mistake. An excellent episode to begin my top 25 list! But also how Spencer knew the plan the entire time and together they succeed. How Hotch gains the unsubs trust, even though it is heart-breaking to watch as Spencer looks so sad at what is being said. They are both the heroes of this episode. Finally, this is an episode that celebrates both Spencer Reid and Aaron Hotchner. This is a chaotic episode with the killer at large on a spree, extremely dangerous. The moment the real unsub shoots the officer, it makes me jump and shocks me every time. The unbelievable stress of discovering a suspect who is playing the unsub in the trunk of the car. What makes this episode so memorable is the manic feeling you get watching its entirety. What makes this case so interesting is that a profile has never caught one of these unsubs before. Spencer is struggling to pass his qualification to carry a gun, as this lingers over him, a case of a long distance serial killer (ie. Who doesn’t remember the heart-breaking speech from Hotch that was just a mask for Spencer to act against the unsub? This episode has a perfect combination of a great case for the FBI to solve and character development within the team. As an episode that returns years later as a copycat, it must be one to be included on this list. Let’s start this list off with a return to season one, when the BAU team were so baby-faced and young.
